Anti-Racism, Equity and Inclusion (ARIE) Concurrent Certificate

The office of the Associate Dean EDII is excited to launch the Concurrent Certificate in Anti-Racism, Inclusion and Equity (ARIE) in science. The ARIE Certificate is designed to address the emerging priorities of integrating principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion into the current science curriculum.
Open to all undergraduate students (from level II and above) in the Faculty of Science and other faculties, the ARIE Certificate aims to actively engage undergraduate students to reflect on and integrate constructs of anti-racism, equity, accessibility and social justice into their science education and degree programs.
Consisting of a requirement of 15 units, students can begin acquiring credits for the ARIE Certification by enrolling in any of the following courses listed in Undergraduate Academic Calendar > Certificate and Diploma Programs > Concurrent Certificates.

SCIENCE 2AR3: Foundations of Science: Equity, Justice and Anti-Racism in Science
Open to all undergraduate students registered in Level II and above!
In this course, students will be exposed to an interdisciplinary curriculum which examines the intersections of equity, justice and anti-racism with science. Topics will include:
- Current status of global science
- Historical trajectories of science disciplines
- Progress, trends and issues of race and representation of equity-deserving groups in science fields.
SCIENCE 4AR6: Inquiry in Science, Equity, Justice and Anti-Racism in Science
Open to all McMaster Undergraduate students who have completed SCIENCE 2AR3 or with permission of instructor
Inquiry-based research into topics that examine the intersections of equity, justice and anti-racism with science.
Students will receive guidance and mentorship on their projects from a faculty member.

The Concurrent Certificate in Anti-Racism, Inclusion and Equity (ARIE) provides students with skills, knowledge, and opportunities to actively engage with these topics within the context of science fields and its disciplines.
The certificate is designed for all undergraduate students (from level II and above) in the Faculty of Science and students from other Faculties.
Students can begin their ARIE Certificate process by enrolling in any of the following eligible courses listed in the course description. Please visit the link to the academic calendar to view eligible courses.
Any student in an undergraduate program at McMaster University can declare the ARIE Certificate at the time of graduation on the condition that they have completed all 15-unit requirements.
This is a new opportunity to gain, build-upon, advance and actively apply their knowledge on Anti-Racism, Inclusion and Equity within science disciplines.
The ARIE certification enables undergraduate students to reflect on and actively integrate anti-racism, equity, accessibility, and social justice into science education and degree programs.
